Who we are / What we do

The world needs better tools for making complex decisions. At Facet Decision Systems, we sell software and services that improve decision making in three ways:
     by assembling information
     by automating decision processes
     by helping people understand their decisions.

Technical requirements

We require a well-rounded technical person to handle both the internal systems for a team of 15 users, as well as the externally hosted systems for a growing set of LAMP applications. Having an applied science degree or equivalent, a multi-disciplinary background delivering web-based solutions and an entrepreneurial spirit is key. You will work with our in-house software product and out of the box software packages to support our team as we create web based decision support systems.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding and five years of experience including:

     Linux and Windows server administration and desktop support
     LAMP, particularly MySQL and PHP configuration and tuning
     Scripting experience, such as csh or perl
     Managed hosting experience
     Proactive problem solver - ability to step back from a problem, do research and find solutions
     Technology training and client support
     Providing estimates and updates for the project manager
     Working with applications written in Perl, Java, C++, C, SQL
     Excellent technical writing and communication skills
     Facilitating and interacting with many levels of project stakeholders

Skills that would be complementary or considered an asset include:

     Experience with Solaris
     Experience managaing daily and weekly backups
     Network troubleshooting

This is an unconventional, extremely flat organization made up of programmers, GIS developers, data modelers, and sales people, all of whom are pretty technically savvy. The person we hire will sit in the middle of an office where "dropping in" is considered acceptable, and will be an integral part of on-going projects in the office. In other words, this is not a trouble-ticket, hide-in-the-office, follow-the-management-hierarchy setting. Previous experience working on project teams, communicating ideas both in-person and via documentation, and being able to reach reasonable compromises will be valuable contributions to this role.
